Si è tenuta a Pisa la fase regionale delle olimpiadi di Neuroscienze di cui Matteo è stato coordinatore nazionale.

I primi tre classificati sono stati premiati con dei libri offerti dalla Matteo Caleo Foundation.

Le Olimpiadi delle Neuroscienze rappresentano la selezione italiana della International Brain Bee (https://thebrainbee.org), una competizione internazionale che mette alla prova studenti delle scuole medie superiori, di età compresa fra i 13 e i 19 anni, sul grado di conoscenza nel campo delle neuroscienze. Gli studenti si cimentano su argomenti quali: l’intelligenza, la memoria, le emozioni, lo stress, l’invecchiamento, la plasticità neurale, il sonno e le malattie del sistema nervoso. Scopo della iniziativa è accrescere fra i giovani l’interesse per lo studio della struttura e del funzionamento del cervello umano, ed attrarre giovani talenti alla ricerca nei settori delle Neuroscienze sperimentali e cliniche, che rappresentano la grande sfida del nostro millennio.

L’evento nasce negli Stati Uniti nel 1998 e attualmente coinvolge più di 50 paesi in tutto il mondo. L’Italia partecipa alla competizione internazionale dal 2010 con le Olimpiadi delle Neuroscienze, che hanno progressivamente coinvolto tutto il territorio italiano con la partecipazione di tutte le Regioni, con più di 220 scuole e 5500 studenti. Promotore dell’evento nazionale è la Società Italiana di Neuroscienze (SINS), che rappresenta la più importante società scientifica nazionale a carattere interdisciplinare per lo studio del Sistema Nervoso e delle sue malattie.

Le Olimpiadi delle Neuroscienze 2023 constano di 3 fasi:
– Fase locale (10 febbraio 2023): si svolgerà nelle singole scuole. Ogni scuola deve individuare i 3 migliori allievi.
– Fase regionale (17 o 18 marzo 2023): si svolgerà in una sede regionale e selezionerà il miglior studente delle singole regioni italiane
– Fase nazionale (12-13 maggio 2023): si svolgerà a Napoli e selezionerà il vincitore tra i migliori studenti di ogni competizione regionale. Il vincitore riceverà una borsa di studio per rappresentare l’Italia alla competizione internazionale

The regional phase of the Neuroscience Olympiad, for which Matteo served as national coordinator, was held in Pisa.

The top three finishers were awarded books offered by the Matteo Caleo Foundation.

The Neuroscience Olympiads represent the Italian selection of the International Brain Bee (https://thebrainbee.org), an international competition that tests high school students, ages 13 to 19, on their level of knowledge in the field of neuroscience. Students compete on topics such as intelligence, memory, emotions, stress, aging, neural plasticity, sleep, and nervous system diseases. The initiative aims to increase interest among young people in studying the structure and functioning of the human brain and attract young talent to research in experimental and clinical neuroscience, which represents the great challenge of our millennium.

The event was born in the United States in 1998 and involves more than 50 countries worldwide. Italy has been participating in the international competition since 2010 with the Neuroscience Olympiad, which has progressively involved the entire Italian territory with the participation of all regions, with more than 220 schools and 5500 students. The promoter of the national event is the Italian Neuroscience Society (SINS), which represents the most important national scientific society with an interdisciplinary nature for the study of the Nervous System and its diseases.

The Neuroscience Olympiad 2023 consists of 3 phases:
– Local phase (Feb. 10, 2023): in individual schools. Each school must identify the top 3 students.
– Regional phase (March 17 or 18, 2023): takes place at a regional venue and selects the best student from individual Italian regions
– National phase (May 12-13, 2023): will take place in Naples and select the winner among the best students from each regional competition. The winner will receive a scholarship to represent Italy at the international competition.
